On the blind spot of Queenie’s rage, Pagudpud in Ilocos Norte courted the reckless and the naive with a lively grace. Though it sent timid souls indoors, safe and snug, in their modernly fitted resort rooms, it passed on a message, loud and clear, that, with fun, each moment counts.
This was November. A moment’s insanity got our heads turned around, and my friend and I found ourselves on the 10-hour long bus trail leading from Manila to the outskirts of Cordillera and tourists waypoints of Ilocos.
Our mission was to enjoy the white sands and foamy surf of Pagudpod, but was sidetracked by various adventures in Vigan and Laoag.

One of the most celebrated religious icons in the Philippines is the Sto. Nino, or the image of the baby Jesus. And the Sinulog Festival in Cebu City dedicated to the image is undoubtedly one of the most famous Philippine festivals flocked by local and foreign tourists.
The main festival is held every year on the third Sunday of January, the child Jesus used to be the patron saint of the whole province of Cebu (since in the Catholic faith Jesus is not a saint, but God). The highlight is the street dance ritual, which remembers the Filipino people’s pagan past and their acceptance of Christianity.

Just a few hours from Metro Manila lies one of the most visited tourist spots in the summer. Although known for its grandiose hideaway beach resorts, La Union, now in its perfect glory, offers what can only mean a perfect adventure getaway: beaches and surfing.
Several years ago, La Union, located in the southwestern Ilocos region, was thought of as just another province. Now it is turning heads and making a suitable name for itself. With several mentions of La Union in television and movies, it has made a deep mark in the heart of the Filipino travelers worldwide.
With this in mind, many tourists and locals visit La Union for more than its beauty. They log on and are mesmerized with its surfing and beach spots.

There are many ways in which a woman can defend herself in foreboding situations. Judo, aikido, arnis and all kinds of martial arts, including a self-defense class, may give hopes that a woman is not as vulnerable as everyone thinks. Yet, there is one form of system in which a woman may truly know the real essence of self defense – one which is slightly taking shape all over Europe and the Americas: Pekiti tersia kali.
This is considered a system and not a form of martial arts because this system involves respect, which the other forms of martial arts don’t possess. Pekiti tersia kali, from the Ilonggo dialect, which literally means a closed quarter in fighting system.
Pekiti has been around since 1897, and is even used during the time of Lapulapu. “Pekiti is the philosophy of the early fathers,” claims Grand Master Leo T. Gaje, simply known as Tujon. “In this philosophy, we believe in life and not death. We believe in success and not failure. We believe in good health and not sickness. Pekiti also has no rules, and you just fight.”
