Marine Diving Fair in Japan awards the Philippines Best Diving Spot

This year has proven to be yet another triumphant year for the Philippines diving spots, as the country bagged a major award during the 2007 Marine Diving Fair (MDF) in the Sunshine City in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, Japan held last month. The Philippines was voted as one of the top diving areas in the Best Diving Area Overseas category in a survey conducted by the MDF organizers.

The Marine Diving Fair, Japan’s biggest scuba diving and beach resort travel consumer fair, is an annual event organized by the Marine Art Center Co. Ltd. The MDF’s showcase Asia’s largest scuba and diving destinations and resorts exhibitions, attracting close to 50,000 visitors comprising divers, travel trade practitioners, end-users, media and the general public yearly.

Attorney Evelyn Cajigal of the Philippine Commission on Sports and Scuba Diving received the award in behalf of Tourism Secretary Ace Durano during the Dive and Travel Awards 2007.

The Department of Tourism was a booth exhibitor in the MDF 2007 now on its 14th year. The DOT expects the influx of Japanese tourists, specifically the diving enthusiasts, to the Philippines after being named one of the top diving areas overseas.

During the event, the DOT team Japan likewise presented new marketing campaign promoting a lifestyle of health and overall well-being dubbed as “Wellness from Inside Out”. They also launched the Dive Treasure Hunt project, which is an innovative campaign aimed at bringing divers and travelers to Cebu and Mactan over a six month period.
