Half-Pinay Kirby Ann Basken Wins Miss Norway-Universe Title

Try and try until you succeed best describes the spirit of half-filipina, half-Norwegian Kirby Ann Basken. This 21-year old lad first joined Miss Norway in January 2006 but did not bring home the crown.
Monday night changed everything as Kirby was finally crowned Miss Norway Universe 2007 (Froken Norge-Universe).
In an interview, Kirby said that she would have given up if she didn’t qualify for the finals but now everything is fine because she will get herself prepared to represent her country (Norway) at the Miss Universe in Mexico.
Basken, a Mass-Communications graduate, was born in Oslo to Norwegian father Geir Basken and Filipina mother Divina Basken (nee Tan). Kirby worked as a model in the Philippines for almost a year and appeared in several commercials on national TV (Bingo biscuits, Johnson’s baby cologne, KFC).
Her dream was to work with children and teenagers with psycho-sociological adjustment problems. During her spare time, she likes to write. She’s written several articles for the website Youth for Youth and for the radio station P4’s Guru. She also hosted a radio program ”Tinig Pinoy” for teenagers in Norway. Kirby enjoys dancing, climbing and spending time with her friends.
Prior to her winning the Miss Norway-Universe crown, Kirby is the reigning Mutya ng Pilipinas-Asia Pacific International 2006. Upon hearing the news of Basken’s coronation, The Miss Asia Pacific Quest Inc. director and founder Leandro Enriquez, said that they are very proud of Kirby. He also added that they will not strip off Kirby’s local title despite her new crown.
Looks like two Filipino women will compete in the Miss Universe pageant. Binibining Pilipinas Universe Anna Theresa Licaros will represent the Philippines while half-Pinay Kirby will represent Norway.
For sure it will be an exciting battle of beauties as we root for two Filipinas in the Miss Universe pageant.
