Pilipinas.PH’s resident wanderer and photo-guy Gerry D went off to invade Southern Luzon just recently, camera and loving wife in tow. These gorgeous shots of Lake Sampalok in San Pablo City, Laguna just reminds me that I haven’t traveled the outskirts of Manila in a while. Maybe that ought to change soon for the Philippines outside of the metro is just beautiful.

Lake Sampalok (aka Lake Sampaloc) is one of the Seven Lakes of San Pablo — it is the largest of the lot. It has an area of 104.0 hectares, and a maximum depth of 27.0 meters. Approximately 85% of its volume is of uniform in depth. Sampalok Lake is sunk in a shallow depression, indicating its probable volcanic origin. The lake is situated near the city center, just behind San Pablo City Hall and is dotted with fishpens and small cottages.

Considered one of the prime tourist spots in the city, Sampalok Lake is also home to numerous floating restaurants along its shoreline that serve Filipino food and Native Philippine cuisine. It used to abound with various types of fish tilapia, bangus, carp and several species of shrimps but not anymore. Today the fishpens in the lake are for growing fingerlings only.

Gerry also photographed Lee Ann, a sexy Filipina model in Sampalok Lake. Click the link for photos of the Lady in the Lake.

San Pablo City is 2 hours drive from Makati. A day trip is possible although there are many hotels and resorts in and around the city. It is a border city to the province of Quezon where the nearby town Tiaong has the storied Villa Escudero resort, next on our photoblog!

How to get there? Pretty easy. Most of the bus lines servicing Laguna and Southern Luzon will have direct trips to San Pablo. Also, Lucena-bound buses pass through the city limits.
